Bubblewrap

Bubble wrap- that really cool stuff that used to come as packing material in boxes. Yes, the stuff that pops.

I haven't thought about bubble wrap until recently. A family member was sending my kid a gift and told me they threw something extra in the order to qualify for free shipping, but couldn't remember what the item was. Turns out, the extra item was a little key chain that imitated popping bubble wrap with rubber buttons and a popping sound.

At first I thought it was really cool, but when I started playing with it, I realized it just wasn't the same. It sounded like the original, but that's it. The key chain was NOT the real thing.

That is just like gaining happiness and joy. Supposedly all these things can come from a high on drugs, a "good" job, a hobby, sports, or any number of things. And that is true - for a short period any of these can bring happiness.

Eventually, the happiness from these things fades and must be replaced by something else. What does one do? Go find something else that can bring that happiness around? That, too, shall pass.

Jesus said, "I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life." True fulfilment comes through a relationship with Jesus Christ. The really cool thing is that not only does one get fulfillment through Christ, but all those other things come as well.

Today, I leave with a question, "where does your Truth come from?"

What's in a Name?

Matthews 14:28-31 (the Message):

Peter, suddenly bold, said, "Master, if it's really you, call me to come to you on the water."
He said, "Come ahead."
Jumping out of the boat, Peter walked on the water to Jesus. But when he looked down at the waves churning beneath his feet, he lost his nerve and started to sink. He cried, "Master, save me!"
Jesus didn't hesitate. He reached down and grabbed his hand. Then he said, "Faint-heart, what got into you?"

Think about this, Peter took his eyes off God and started looking at his circumstances. As soon as he did, he started drowning in them. All he did was cry out to God reached out, pulling him up and saving his life.

God will stretch out his arm to you if you cry out to him. (or if you don't - all you have to do is grasp it and He pulls you up- like the man at the Pool of Bethesda)

I know I have been in places where it has felt like I'm sinking. It is so very easy to get caught up in worldly trappings (the economy, family, work, schedule, etc...), but all we have to do is look to Him, and He pulls us right out.
